THE LAST ECHO by Kimberly Derting + giveaway
So I know I need to write another playlist blog post (if you haven't entered the iPod Nano contest, you can read about it here), but I read an awesome book this week and I want to talk about it.
I'm sure you've heard of THE BODY FINDER. It's about Violet, a girl who can sense echos on bodies that were left behind by the victims' killers. Using this power, she is able to track down bad guys. The book is AMAZINGLY good, and my favorite parts are the ones written from the killers' points of view.
Anyway, I just got to read the third book in the series, THE LAST ECHO. When I started it, I totally thought it was the end of the series because of the title, but I recently read on Kimberly's blog that it is MOST DEFINITELY NOT the end, and I squeed in happiness!
Guys, this book is so good. Instead of me trying (and failing) to explain the premise, let me quote Goodreads here:
Violet kept her morbid ability to sense dead bodies a secret from everyone except her family and her childhood-best-friend-turned-boyfriend, Jay Heaton. That is until forensic psychologist Sara Priest discovered Violet's talent and invited her to use her gift to track down murderers. Now, as she works with an eclectic group of individuals—including mysterious and dangerously attractive Rafe—it's Violet's job to help those who have been murdered by bringing their killers to justice. When Violet discovers the body of a college girl killed by "the girlfriend collector" she is determined to solve the case. But now the serial killer is on the lookout for a new "relationship" and Violet may have caught his eye....
I think the creepiest part in that blurb is the reference to the killer's "relationships" with his victims. The killer is most definitely psychologically disturbed and honestly believes that the girls he's kidnapping actually return his feelings. *shudder*
The ending was phenomenal. I don't want to spoil anything, but Kimberly nailed this one. It's haunting, creepy, and eerily perfect.
Sound awesome? Wanna buy it RIGHT THIS SECOND? Here are some linkies:

I'm also going to give away my ARC because I'll be buying a new, signed copy for my THE BODY FINDER collection when I'm ON TOUR with Kimberly in April. If you want to come see us, we'll be in Chicago, Dayton, and Boston (schedule can be found here).

Mmm. I don't think so. I'm a little bit...scared of this gift!
ReplyDeleteI love this series!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd want this talent.. at all. It would be too creepy and I believe in the end, all those deaths and killers will end up haunting me and my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteLove this series!! I definitely would not want Violet's talent. I would have a lot of nightmares and be scared all the time, I think.
ReplyDeleteGreat series! thanks for the giveaway. Also, hope to see you both in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteYAY! Giveaway!!! Lover Kimberly Derting!
ReplyDeleteNope. I don't think I can handle that talent.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Thanky ou so much for this giveaway!! =D I cant wait to get to Slide too! aaaaaaaaah!! so many awesomeness together!! =D
ReplyDeleteNope, I highly doubt I'd have the courage to discover dead bodies >.<
ReplyDeleteAH! The review makes me want to read the book so bad. *O* No... I don't think I'll ever want that power. Being able to find dead bodies and their killers? I'll just stay at home and be normal, thanks. >.<
ReplyDeleteI'd like the power, once I figured out how to use it right, ya know? I'm sure it would be scary at first, though.
ReplyDeleteBtw, just finished SLIDE and LOVED IT!!!
Thanks for the giveaway!
Yay, Jen! I'm so glad!
DeleteI don't think I'd mind being able to find killers, but I would definitely not want to have a talent for finding bodies. That would be a bit too creepy :P thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'd say Yes! I do not feel his talent is that worse, she has the chance to give those spirit some closer and peace! Don't you think? That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'd say Yes! I do not feel her talent is that worse, she has the chance to give those spirit some closure and peace! Don't you think? That's awesome! (finger mistake in my last comment) hahaha Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing a giveaway! I'm so excited to read more about Violet and Jay. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would want Violet's ability. It sure would put a damper on living peacefully with happy thoughts if I was constantly bombarded with death. Although I can see the upside of having the ability because you would be able to help others find closure. Tough call.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I think it's a double-edged sword. It would be really scary to be able to find killers and bodies, but on the other hand, I would want to help people and give justice. :)
ReplyDeleteWhile it would be...nice...to help people out by circling in on killers and dead bodies that need to be found, I don't know that I could handle such a morbid ability. Dead things, for the most part, freak me out. (:
ReplyDeleteThat would be a hard talent to cope with, so I'll be honest and admit that I wouldn't exactly *want* it. However, if I could choose to have it, I would take it in order to help people and the dead find closure with their untimely and wrongful deaths.
ReplyDeleteNo, I wouldn´t want Violet "gift", because they´re really creepy. I get easily scared way too easily.
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway!
No-uh... I wish it were something that could prevent the kills not actually finding the bodies. I'm terrified of death and everything that has to do with it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm such a curious person that I'd be like her and follow the beckoning of the echoes...so I think it's because I don't want to go insane :D
Since I work in criminal justice it would definitely be helpful! I really adore this series! Thanks for the chance! :-D
ReplyDeleteI think Violet's talent for finding bodies is cool! I'm so excited for The Last Echo!
ReplyDeleteNo, I'd be too freaked out about it. I wouldn't want to be so connected to the dead as she is and I wouldn't want to have thast burden either considering I'd probably get myself in a lot of trouble! :P
ReplyDeleteI like Violet's talent for finding bodies. I would love to have her talent since I work part-time in the morgue.
ReplyDeleteNo, I'd be absolutely terrified finding dead bodies! Lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway Juill!:D
Yes! I'd love to be able to catch the bad guys. I have a fascination with serial killers.
ReplyDeleteNO way! I can't handle the few times I thought I saw a ghost...I love reading about this supernatural stuff, but I'm a huge wuss when it comes to dealing with it in real life!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I would love to catch the bad guy, I don't think I can handle what Violet does mentally! Maybe if I could handle the power then it's be neat.
ReplyDeletehah! I was just about to say, "That's such an english teacher thing", when I saw the "Why or Why not". And you totally beat me to it before I finished my thought. :)
I could totally handle what Violet does and catch bad guys, I'm just morbid like that :P
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway, I CANNOT wait to get my hands on The Last Echo!!!
I don't know that my sanity could handle it her ability, but I would love it anyway! I'm so intrigued by her talent. At least she has a great amount of support while she struggles with it.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read this book! I love the other books in this series! I'm dying to read this one!
(No pun intended!)

Ed and Em's Reviews
First thanks for the review of the book... I want to read it tonight!
ReplyDeleteIt would be a little eerie, but having the ability to solve murders using Violet's 'gift' would be pretty amazing.
I don't think I would want Violet's gift. Thanks for the giveaway! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this! I'm dying to read this book. I love this series.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question: NO WAY!
I mean, it's totally cool for Violet and stuff because she gets to help find the people who got murdered justice, but at the same time it's totally creepy. It would freak me out to have her talent. I don't think I could handle coming across dead bodies and then running into the person's killer. I'd go insane.
I wouldn't want Violet's abilities because it would be too creepy finding dead bodies all the time. I admire how strong Violet is about finding dead bodies and going so far as to pursue killers.
ReplyDeleteNo, thanks :D I prefer my life uneventful.
ReplyDeleteI would want to so that I could solve crimes quickly!
ReplyDeleteI would be a very helpful talent but I don't think I could stomach it!
ReplyDeleteI think that it would be a plus for solving crimes and the good side but you also wouldn't be able to turn it off. After reading everything Violet goes through, I'm really not sure sure yet whether I would want it.
ReplyDeleteI definitely would not want Violet's talent. When she gets an echo, it consumes her life until it can be taken care of. Love Kimberly Derting's novels. I have read them all!
ReplyDeleteGod, I would NOT want Violet's talent, I don't think I could deal with all it entails, I admire Violet for being so strong and brave, I'd be afraid of running into something dead all the time :(
ReplyDeleteI really don't think I would want Violet's talent. It's so morbid! It's great that she can do good with it, but no thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting Violet's talent, but I don't think I would want it.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want to, I would get so freaked out. Plus it would make my life much more complicated.
ReplyDeleteOh I would love it. I love forensic science so it would be a useful tool to have.

Yes!!! It would be so awesome to have something supernatural and interesting going on in your life.
ReplyDeleteLove the series and glad to hear that this may not be the last one.
ReplyDeleteI love the Body Finder series and can't wait to find out how the story continues. Thank you for the chance to win an ARC :-)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't because who would want the power to find dead body, but then a part of me does because I'd be able to bring peace to that person and their family in a case where the person was missing and presumed dead.
ReplyDeleteNo I don't think I would want this gift--too creepy. LOL
ReplyDeleteHaving this talent would creep me out but at the same time i think it would be cool, being able to help people find their lost loved ones after they have been murdered. i would keep it a secret thogh :)
ReplyDeleteNo! I'd be super creeped out.
ReplyDeleteOMG! No, I don't want that talent! I can't even tell why!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!!
Yes, because I love solving crimes! :)
ReplyDeleteyes, i think it would be a cool skill to have & i get to help catch killers.
ReplyDelete-chelleyreads
I wouldn't want it! Its bad enough that I study law all day, if I had to go home to bodies every night I'm pretty sure I wouldn't make it a week!
ReplyDeleteI definitely would not want that talent!
ReplyDeletei so love this book series. i like the gift just not sure if i could handle it everyday.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would want that particular gift. I already have problems with panic attacks. I think that would send me way over the edge!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this super fabulous opportunity to win a great book! I'm stoked.

Thanks again!
Amy
More power to Violet cause I'm not strong enough to deal with that. Life that always dealt with death will be too much for me that just shows how strong Violet is.
ReplyDeleteIn a way i kind of would because i think that i would sort of be helping them and family's but then again not because it is a tad bit creepy!!
ReplyDeleteHaving Violet's talent would be interesting, but I'm not sure I would want murderer's chasing after me!
